Default Wedding band questions

So we're shopping for our wedding bands. Fiancee's engagement ring is platinum, so wedding band will match. I was thinking of the same (I don't like yellow gold) but cost is high for a 6mm platinum band at local jewelers. Apparently cost of platinum has gone up @70% over the past 5 years or so (again, according to local jewelers). So i've found some smoking deals on the internet, but don't know if I can trust them. Some are around 75% less than I would be paying locally.

Anyone ever bought this stuff online? Can I trust it?

Not what you are looking for, but a friend of mine has a tattooed wedding band. Very unique and shows his faith in his life long committment.

my wife went with both a platinum engagement ring and band. i'd recommend that you save the money and go white gold for your ring. it polishes easier and you can't really tell the difference vs platinum.

Quality white gold looks just like platinum imo - just make sure the alloy is actually white and not plated.

I got a platinum band at Tiffany's. It wasn't cheap, but the band and the stone are exceedingly nice and it's impressively heavy.

Several people have recognized her ring as Tiffany, so the extra $ does buy you something.

Yeah, but you'll know it's second class stuff.

if you're looking for duration, platinum is a more durable metal. Whereas it might scratch easier (you can get it rhodium plated if you're REALLY that bothered about it) when it does scratch, it JUST scratches. With gold, when it scratches, if you buff it out you buff out some of the metal, with platinum (from what I've been told at least) you're just sort of "re-arranging" the metal. It won't wear down as easily over time as gold or white gold will.

This may be incorrect, feel free to correct me if it is.

if she has a platinum ring, dont get her white gold. after a while white gold will look yellow next to platinum.

anyway, i got my fiance's engagement ring online. i searched ring forums and realized i have nothing to worry about because they all give money back guarantees if you dont like it. anyway, it was beautiful, and if you're looking to save money, try online. i bought from www.nicerings.com (stupid name...good stuff!). i'm considering buying the wedding ring online too.
