Riiight. I used to help train nuclear power plant security and actual Sheriff/SWAT teams in CA, President of a simulation training company. Go tell it to someone who knows fewer cops than me.

Everyone says they want to help people. But what makes pre-LEO's think they're suitable for guarding the sheep? They believe they're sheep dogs, capable of taking on the predators. There is something in their (your) mentality that makes you think you can exercise control over others. That's sort of a given, isn't it?

Look at taped incidents, when police don't know they're on tape. What tiny percentage of such confrontations are captured that way? C'mon, the cat is out of the bag with the general public.

You sound like a decent fellow. I hope you act it when given that much authority.

Since you have trained so many officers you know that any cop that has difficulty asserting authority will eventually end up hurt or dead. I dont disagree that cops tend to be a different breed, however unless you know these officers on an intimate personal level I doubt you can "judge" weather or not they are good people. You have no idea what goes on during these officers tour.

Another point, your course sounds extremely aggressive. How do you think these specialized teams like SWAT (which btw is filled with extreme A type personalities) are going to act in that enviroment? I doubt you will find them swapping many stories about helping an old lady across the street.

I dont have any facts about "taped" percentages but you dont either. And btw, there hasnt been a CAT since Rodney King. The real problem is the small percentage of officers abusing thier power and the media. Like I said before, the media LOVES dirty cops.

He'd seen too many episodes of COPS.

In my opinion that show fosters just exactly this type of attitude.

Regardless of what our resident cop says, this is exactly the attitude I see every day in cops. I got the badge and gun so I'M big guy.

Napoleon personified.

Question

the girl had every right to react how ever she wanted once the situation was escalated by the cop. she threatned no physical harm nor engaged the police officer or those around her in any way. Did she have a good attitude no, was she being overly smart, no, but she did not break any law.

After several explanations that there simply were no 20.00 bills in the register, she became aggitated and talked in her own manner. The cop acted ridiculously!!! (you should see the whole video!!!)

I can say to a cop's face all day that I dont like them. I have that right.

Plain and simple the cop was on a power trip and should be summarily dismissed and fined. that cop has no business in civil service, PERIOD.

it enrages me that even after the video was examined and the search of her person was completed the cop received no charges. I would have had his badge hanging on my wall as a trophy if that happened to me.

I dont think hardly anyones knows their real rights in situations like this and many others.

Cops are great people for the most part but even the good ones often take great liberites with your rights and freedoms when it serves them.

Know your rights, people!!!!!

If this post is directed at my response I whole heartedly agree with you. There is nothing in my posts that have indicated otherwise. The cop should have been fired.

I've had people curse and shout at me. And I have ALWAYS kept my cool. I've even seen people look at me, spit at the floor, and give me a dirty look. It's just dirt of my shoulder. And yes you should know your rights!

"Cops are great people for the most part but even the good ones often take great liberites with your rights and freedoms when it serves them."

Really? And you know this because you know many cops and they have admitted to you that they have violated other peoples civil rights? Bahahaa please! At this point you are just spreading the stereotype.

"I can say to a cop's face all day that I dont like them. I have that right."

Of course you do but why would you? You dont like the cop because he is a cop? Thats similar to telling a black person you dont like him because he is black. Smack of prejudice to me.

Let me restate, most of the public dealings with officers comes in either of 3 ways.

1) You broke the law - Speeding, creating a breach of peace, DUI, Narcotics, what ever, in either case you resent him for slapping you on the wrist. And if he lectured you (especially if he talked down to you) now thats just salt on the wounds. You pay his salary! How dare he write you a ticket for going 85 mph in a 55 zone!

2) You need help - You were attacked, robbed, someone broke your window, threatened you. The officer comes 40 minutes after you call and you complain that he is so late. Little did you know he had a 3 job queue.

3) Media - Again bad cops sells.

Cops are screwed from the get go. I accept this is the way society will always see cops. But I will take every opportunity I can to educate people. Cops are not saints. This guys is an obvious exception. Hopefully someday you will befriend a cop maybe your views will change.
