I had an interesting presentation as a student from a PhD whose job (NASA IIRC) was to search for habitable planets. I still have a copy of the presentation somewhere. It was pretty neat--and quite interesting to learn about the tricks they have to use to characterize planets so far away!

edit: Well, the reported actual flight ceiling was 3 ft and max speed was 35mph, so that particular couldn't have ever posed as a UFO imposter. Still a neat project IMO, and it shows some of the wierd projects we were making back in the day.
