Default What is the best APARTMENT GUARD DOG?

Hey guys just wondering on what your thoughts would be on the best apartment guard dog since im going to be living in an apartment by myself in miami. When I lived in South Carolina I lived in an apartment by myself with no fear, but since I live in miami now I am kind of worried. And NO I will not be taking into consideration having a roommate, I had one once and will not again. Thanx!

No one would think about entering your apartment with this pair in there!

but whether there would be anything left of the apartment I can't vouch for!

A breed that doesn't smell doggy, can wash itself without the need for a hose or bucket and clean up it's own cr@p. Apartments and dogs are just not a good combo IMO although I know it's a very popular thing in other countries. An alarm will probably work out cheaper in the long run plus you'll actually be able to go away somewhere occassionally.

If you're after a guard dog then Ive gotta agree with Muz, any dog big enough to be scary is going to be far too confined within an apartment. If you get something that is good as a watch dog like a foxy terrier then you're going to have problems with the neighbours complaining about the yapping so much that if he makes a noise to alert of an intruder then they will ignore it. If you want a companion get a cat or a lazy dog and get an alarm or get to know the neighbours well enough that you look out for each other.

Small dog with a low voice.

If I were going to break in, I don't think a toy poodle would stop me.

I agree, I had one and the little dog went totally apeshit on a guy that tried to break in. The crazy racket and sharp little teeth was enough to make the guy worry that he would get caught and bleed all over the place. Another time the dog quietly woke us up and growled very low so we'd know there was danger. That guy escaped after the police were on the scene.

BTW, when I lived a few blocks from Dadeland Mall in Miami my guard dog was nothing more than a 357 mag.

Please don't put a big dog in a small apartment. It's really on the cruel side of things to do.

Get a Pomerainian. That is what I have, and he is the best guard dog I have had, plus they only get up to about 6 pounds.
