ok guys,

im thinking of buying a digital camera somewhere in the range of $300. ive been looking on etronics.com and found the Canon Powershot S230 Camera to my liking. Can anybody recommend this camera? Or better yet what should i look for in a digital camera? Also what about accessories? Thanks in advance for any info.

I've had bad experience with the P71. I first bought a first-gen P71 and it was horrible. I could never get a clear pic - even if the pic was taken from a tripod, it wuold be blurry. And when I set it to max resolution (1600x1200) it's sooo grainy it's not even funny. I exchanged it at Best Buy for an exact replacement, hoping my first camera was a lemon, but the second camera was just as bad.

And then not too long ago, I bought the next-gen P71 specifically to take pics at the Houston Auto Show. Well, to my dismay, the pics were again blurry, and at max resolution (now 2048x1360) they weren't that great. The pics are especially grainy whenever I try to zoom in, although I never use digital zoom - the optical zoom is just that horrible.

The camera isn't that bad (I'll post some decent pics), but it's not great all of the time. It's like it only takes clear pictures when it wants.

those pics are pretty good, but I see what you mean about. They just don't seem to be crystal clear like some digitals. What Sony would you suggest. I really like sony stuff and I have their desktop so transfering pictures from a memory stick is easy. Thanks

You cannot go wrong with any Canon digital camera. (G2, S30, S40, etc) I have the older P7, and it's pretty good. But please.. dont get the P71.

P71 is a POS. I can't believe I bought it 3 times. The first was the first. The second, I replaced the first with the same model. The third, I bought because it was the next-gen model (I assumed it wuold be better).

Too bad I couln't return it; it hadn't been 14 days so it was still returnable - too bad I dropped it in the lake.

Alex - I guess just that specific model is a bit of a POS. I have a DSC-P3 and its a flawless camera, great picture quality. My roommate just got a P7 I believe, and its even better.
