Is it any surprise that people who don't work want a socialist form of government?

Seriously, one of my biggest pet peeves of all time are people who have nothing better to do than force their rhetoric down the throats of others. I was an environmental science major in college, and the environmentalist kids were always trying to recruit the science people to support their cause. They'd always be flying to Seattle, or NYC, or DC to go protest something or other (usually having nothing to do with the enviroment). God, I hated those kids. I guess the sad part is that most sane people grow up, whereas these people just continue living in a fantasy world. . .

It's those same enviromentalists who say we need to reduce dependence on foreign oil...then try to block any drilling in the US. They think Hydrogen is some kind of cure-all. It'll probably take MORE energy to create, move, distribute, and store hydrogen from fuel-cell cars...and that energy has to come from coal, oil, etc.

yep, hydrogen has potential, but the trick is cheaply creating it. Nuclear fusion also has lots of potential, but research seems to have slowed (the Texas ring was shut down a while back for example).

If a catalyst is developed that can break down water fast enough, then hydrogen is a good answer. But, back to the point: environmental protestors are just irrational

More than the majority of protestors have jobs, but the news doesn't put them on since it is not appealing to learn about a regular guy who took a week off of work to complain (in his own way) about some of the problems (in his view) he has with the government / big business / or other (enter problem here).

Many people choose to protest major events like the RNC or DNC or WTO because they know they will get their point of view across in these overly covered events. Do some, if not many, go over the line, YES.
Do thousands and thousands protest within the lines agreed upon by the city, state or federal governments, yes, but thats not news worthy.

I'm sorry about them raggin on your car NFRs2000NYC, I'm sorry they shut down your commute r_duff, and I'm sorry to all those who's businesses are shut down when protests turn ugly. (Although I shouldn't be sorry for any of that since I did not cause any of that). Not really sorry, but I feel for you.

Anyway, the Constitution clearly lays out the laws in terms of questioning your government and free speech. That is all most of these people want to do. When we stop questioning our government the true problems will arise.

P.S. I hate hippies.
P.P.S. While I may not agree with what you have to say, I will to my death, defend your right to say it.

Do hippies have jobs?

I agree that the Constitution guarantees Americans the right to free speech, but that does not give people the right to do and say anything they want. Perhaps it is the fault of the media for only showing the minority of "rabblerousers" who are protesting to the extreme, . However, I see any obstruction of my ability to go through my day (be it from the extreme protester laying in the road, or the "normal" protesters just blocking traffic due to sheer volume) as pure annoyance. Also, I fail to see how protesting really gets the point across to people like me. Honestly, I just tune these people out. Rather than listening to what they're saying, I'm instead envisioning how funny it would be to run around kicking people in the nuts as they wave their signs in front of my face. . .

Again, I hold this equal for all protesters. . . anti-Bush, anti-gay rights, environmentalists, etc.

100% of respondents to my personal poll (me) think those people should be herded into a pen and crushed with a steam roller. . . but that's just me. Of course, if I say something like that (not even writing it on a sign and shoving it in others' faces), I'm the bad guy, right?

I think some people "prove" their love for this country by telling everyone how much they hate living here. So like I said, people can come to my Fantasyland, where ideals trump real life! Of course, Fantasyland will be a city-block wide chainlink fence, and the business end of a steamroller will be the only ride. . .

Is this all too harsh? Maybe it's because I'm listening to some hardcore gangsta rap right now and am all riled up. . . or maybe it's because I'm right.

Damn this thread is full of nothing but old stubborn hypocrites too rooted in their ways and mind controlled by their beloved establishment media to see between the lines and realize that these "hippies" are standing up and trying to protect the freedoms you take for granted allowing you to sit in your comfy chair, at your nice air conditioned job, doing jackshit but typing and BITCHING about other people bitching.

You people need to wake up, start researching shit for yourselves instead of injecting yourself with pure lies every night, and get back to caring about your fellow man. These people care so much about you and your RIGHTS that they actually take the time, possibly sacrificing their jobs that you sit there and ASSume they don't have, to go stand up for people like you that do nothing about but BITCH.

At least they're doing something to create change...what the are you'll doing but living stagnant?
