meh, i kept the work commute short (<10miles each way) and so i dont care much what it costs within realistic limits. if i'm buying gas its usually for canyon runs or other fun driving, and if i have to pay for that, so be it. i usually run through a tank every week to week and a half.

since insurance is $200 a month, i'd bet when gas runs me $400/month i'll start to care about it, but by then i'll have gotten a significant raise and it will effectively just reduce my pay increase. to me, gas is just the cost of the hobby of driving.

with current prices, if i had a 30+ mile per way commute, i'd buy a beater to DD, but part of that is just to keep miles off the S.

I am really trying to talk my wife into letting me get a bike.
Why would you need approval from your wife to buy a bike? I've known my wife for 15 years married for 10. We have 2 little boys. I ride a liter sport bike and a turbo-charged Busa with 325 RWHP. It has never occurred to me to ask for permission to buy my bikes or ride/track them. She is my wife not my mother. Last I checked I was a adult free to make my own decisions on how to enjoy my life.

If you want to ride, buy what makes you happy. Get good gear, go to track days. Then go have fun.

Ask for permission ?

Life is short ride hard bro.

PS. My oldest son is 9 we flew up to Sears Point last weekend so he could learn and see the Red Bull Rookies Cup. He races a YSR 50 road racing bike. Cages are okay but nothing beats dragging a knee at speed. The look of joy he has after a session on the track fills my heart . He mounts his worn knee pucks in his room with pride.

PSS. Race gas was $8.25 a gallon last week.

I don't drive all that much besides to work and back (no real freeways out here, I've hit up pretty much everything around the island, everything in town in easily walkable) but I've stopped going WOT on the private road up to my work. It used to be the only place I could unleash my car, now I've stopped because I realize everytime I do a 0-130 I'm probably throwing away $5ish ontop of the 40 mile round trip I do.

If I had to spend upwards of $1000 a month, I would start considering alternatives...

Currently I spend about a third of that on gas per month. Taking local transport (train + bus) would cost less then $4000 for a yearly ticket, but it would take me an hour and a half to get to work :\

for me personally, probably around $10/gal.
but indirectly, any increase will affect the economy and will affect me. I already don't spend as much as I used to.

I do feel like I am being raped on a day to day basis now.

S costs about 50-60 bucks to fill in my area.

Need to start riding the bicycle to work. The other day, my neighbor left our street the same time I did to go to work. When I got to work finally, I noticed him across the street ( I never knew he worked there) Basically, he beat me to work on a bike, and got there faster because he could avoid traffic signals and what not

I seriously feel like punching someone

I'm going to pick on you for a bit.

Assuming you 'bought' the 2.5i as a daily driver (replacing your S2000, and again, assuming your 01 S2000 is paid off), you don't think the montly payment on the 2.5i & it's fuel cost is higher than just your fuel cost on the S?

Assuming--and just for arguments sake, you spend $200/month on gas for your S. Why would you go out and buy a new 2.5i (again, guessing $26.5K for the Subbie=monthly payment of $525/60months) PLUS the fuel costs of say $150/month for a total cost of $675/month)?

Wouldn't the smart thing to do would be to run S2000 into the ground, even considering the more costly fuel-ups, than to buy a new car?

*I'm aware my costs might be wrong, but I hope you get my point*

Me too.

Im gonna start riding my bicycle to work when its nice out. Work is 12 miles round trip, I can swing 6 miles up and back with nice weather.

Im tired of spending money for gas, and its not even that bad yet. well not bad bad in the sense that its most likely going to double as time goes on.
