Oh yeah.. I'm from Texas, we DEFEND our home and family.. we don't lock ourselves in our room like cowards.
(Not trying to be offensive, I'm just very curious right now...)

So if someone was interested in owning a gun for home protection and occassional gun range shooting, what would you recommend? I'd like something reliable, accurate, doesn't cost uber $? I'd be more interested in a gun with a clip than a revolver. I keep hearing 9mm stuff. I knowly know what I see on TV and those are the Walthers, Sigs, Glocks, and Berettas. There's really so much out there on guns, I don't know where to start looking. Also, how many rounds does each clip hold?

Think home invasion. You protect your family and yourself from murderers rapists etc...
n 1997, there were 233,844 residential B&Es representing a rate of 772 incidents per 100,000
population or about 2% of Canadian households.

Well I can't answer for TGJ but why in the hell would you want it outside your reach if you did intend on using it for home protection? What good is it going to do in a shoe box when the guy stomps through your bedroom window.
It doesn't matter if you live in the freaking white house, there are crazy people everywhere. Now your chances of getting in that situation are very very low but it happens. The guys at the white house have lots and lots of guns within 12 inches. Are they crazy? How many people have broken into the white house? A few for sure, all of whom had there asses handed to them. There is no safe area.
The tone and content of your posts seem to give the "I think you guys are crazy for having a gun." feel. If that is the case, that's fine for you. I'm sure if you want to discuss that the politics forum would love to have it. I completely respect that. However whenever a thread like this starts, People post a few pictures of guns and then someone turns it into a political discussion. I don't think that was/is the intention of this thread.
Now I'll extend my apologies, to those contributing to the original post as they should be, for my part in the "political discussion".
I'll end with saying that both of us need to STFU and just let people post the pictures. If you want to discuss the politics of it, start a thread there. I'll gladly discuss it there.
My bad

I'm not sure what you mean by this post but my father owns a security firm.
Realize that the lock on a typical home door is absolutely worthless against someone intent on breaking into the home.

Look, the idea that changes in gun ownership has caused a reduction in crime is ludicrous, and that's being generous. Good going with the graph - too bad it doesn't show any correlation with gun ownership. Where's the graph showing the supposed parallel rise in gun ownership? Oh, that's right, that data doesn't exist :/

I agree, this thread wasn't about BS statistics and made-up correlations. But I still wonder why the big, brave folks who can't sleep without their gun nearby feel the need to justify it at the drop of a hat. If they're so brave, why do they come across as so insecure?
