I agree with you Russ, I think political debates shouldn't be forbidden territory, and the more we discuss issues with each other, the more we understand others' viewpoints.

I am sorry I didn't see this post sooner, or I would have replied.

It was I that removed the thread, on the heels of many PM's regarding the thread in question.

I had removed the thread to the dumpster untill I had time to review it... I have now done that, and I'm sorry to say that the thread is in violation of our no politics rule..

Some of the participants on the thread are long term members, and are quite aware of these policies, some of the newer members may not have been witness to threads being removed in such a manner..

None the less, I don't want to get into all the reasons the thread was removed, only to remind you that this is S2Ki the i meaning international...

Invariably, topics such as this are going to ignite flames, animosity and such that only goes to segment our community.

It should be no secret by now, that the admins have full say as to what material is allowed on this site, this in the basic sense is not a public forum, where the benifits of free speech can sometimes be waived.

I'm afraid I cannot offer anymore reasons then that.

There are other more suitable forums to discuss these issues, I realize that many of us have come to know each other through this forum, and look forward to dicsussing issues of intrest with others here...

Unfortunatly, this is not the place, which has been example to many many threads that have degrated to such a point that the admins felt a "no politcs " rule would best serve the community as a whole..

Mike

I can understand that, but I would think the people who are easily offended would stay away from the politics forum if there was one.

Mike, I look at this place as a "club," which it is of sorts. As a paying member, I would not want to be invited to join the crowd for some interaction with the preface that, "you can talk about a lot of funky stuff, but if you want to talk politics, well, there are other clubs down the road for that."
The fact that we are "international" should be even MORE of a reason that the free flowing of ideas should be shared. I spent a lifetime (damn near it) as a military man to help defend that right. How ironic that I can not exercise it from the comfort of my own living room.

Mindcore

just curious, are all forums subject to the "no politics" rule?

I'm sorry Russ, and its not that in some part I agree with you..

but I have to take the easy way out, and say it is what it is..

I've been on here for a long time, I've seen the negitive aspects of such threads..

and yes the no politics policy is for all forums within S2Ki

Ok understood

So then I ask why/how does the thread in the Austrailia forum regarding "US propaganda towards war" still remain. While I don't agree whith much that is said there, I did find it interesting.

Russ,
I'm not going to get into the reasons politics is taboo here. Suffice to say that the fact that there is a thread indicating a change in policies suggests that at one point political talk was allowed and for some reason that changed. But I hate it when people get on this board and talk about "rights". You know what a right is? It's when someone who has been nice enough to set up a board that we can all enjoy (and most do for free) has the "right" to say no politics without a bunch of people bitching about it. There are plenty of places you can go to discuss politics. If you feel the need to do it with the people from this board feel free to go out and buy your own bulletin board s/w, set up a server, and invite all of us to come and talk politics. But please don't suggest your rights have been violated because this little car forum has a rule about no politics. Sorry if I sound harsh but your considering this policy a violation of your rights is a disservice to real rights issues.

P.S. To the person asking if this applies to all forums the answer is yes.
