What kind of .45 should I get?

It all came to head when in 1996 a disturbed young man named Martin Bryant went on a rampage in Port Arthur Tasmania. He single handedly killed 24 people before being apprehended.I belive this is a record (not to be proud of) for a lone gunman. This was the turning point in our gun laws. Now our laws are much tighter, and people like Martin Bryant would have a much harder time getting hold of the sort of weaponry he used.

American logic: Bad people might attack me with guns. Now if I have a gun too...
Australian logic: Bad people might attack me with guns. Now if bad people didn't have guns...
Worst case outcome in each instance?
Maybe when your society is already awash with firearms, arming more law abiding citizens reduces violent crime (temporarily - until the bad guys get bigger hand cannons in response). Then again maybe it doesn't. I'd be interested in what percentage of perpetrators of gun related crimes in the US had prior convictions. Nobody thought Martin Bryant was a bad guy before his rampage. Frankly, I'd rather live in a society where nobody has guns. Who wants a domestic arms race? There are parts of most American cities where police, let alone ordinary citizens, fear to tread. That is a foreign concept to me.

hmmm. That's gone about as far as it shouldn't. I place no blame but I think this has to go now. Guns are OK (legal for some anyway) but the politics of guns and gun control sucks and arguing it is futile for all concerned.
