Off-topic TalkWhere overpaid, underworked S2000 owners waste the worst part of their days before the drive home. This forum is for general chit chat and discussions not covered by the other off-topic forums.
Thanks for all the quick replies. S2000 folk are the best folk!
I live alone with two cats and work 10-12 hours a day, so I plan on taking my dog to work with me. I have a spot in the corner of my office picked out for her. I know GSDs can be overprotective so taking her to work will help socialize her and get her used to unfamilar people.
I have considered a Chow (I love the blue tongue) and a Jack Russel, but right now I'm leaning toward a White GSD.
Keep the pics and suggestions coming!
Sondra-
I grew up in Wisconsin (aka Baja Canada) where the winters are frigid indeed. A friend's parents raise Boxers in Wisconsin Rapids without much trouble. They do, however, charge a troubling $900- $1200 per pup.

What do you call a smart blonde? a Golden retriever
Integrate- It's a White German Shepherd Dog puppy.
Sondra, we have two boxers as well. (Just got the second as a puppy in November)You just cannot upset these dogs. Boxers are the most even tempered dogs I have ever encountered. I agree 100% on all points you made except the cold weather climate. I live in Calgary and it can get pretty cold sometimes - I just don't leave them outside for very long. You let them out to do their business and they're right back in the house.
My Boxers are white, a color that is recognized by the AKC but not the Boxer community. There have been many rumors about white Boxer that have been accepted as truth, but they don't get cancer any more often than other colors or breeds, and deafness occurs about as often in whites as other colors too. One of mine does have cancer but it is being managed by homeopathic medicine, and they both hear, sometimes I think too well! Here they are:
P.S. Their skin is really pink in this pic because they were all piled up in front of the kerosene heater...
Originally posted by awinskill I grew up with German Shepherds and would always have gone back to the breed. My wife was concerned over any possible overprotectiveness should we, mistakenly , have a family.
We compromised on a Golden Retriever....
I've got to say she's absolutely gorgeous. Far too clever for her own good and far to affectionate too .
Like others have said.... there's far too many choices and far too much responsability for this forum to decide
I didn't know watching a blank screen is so exciting!

hahaha....thanks! Yup -- they're both still pups (6 mo's and 3 mo's respectively) and the Chow's got a lot of growing left in him!! In fact, it seems like he gets bigger every day!!
Lhasa Apso..they are very cute and small...i used to have chow chow...lost him but good thing about small dog "lhasa apso" they never grow big...stay cute for life
My best suggestion is to rescue one from a pound. There are often purebreds there, too (our doberman is from a shelter. she was dumped there with a purebred rottie after being bred like crazy in a puppy mill). Do not go to a pet store, they buy from those puppy mills.
Anyway, our rescued dog has been so incredibly loveable and seems to really appreciate her new home. It took her a few months to settle in -- seems most of them go through that -- and realize she wasn't going to get dumped again, but now I think she knows she's home for good! Expect this, but it is soooo worth it. During this adjustment time, she never destroyed anything in the home, she was just very anxious when we returned home.
