mmmm...lychee.
My fiance is Chinese, and she's introduced me to all sorts of Chinese fruits.
Yes, I've tried Durian. No, I will not have it again. Even my fiance doesn't like it. She absolutely loves mangosteen though. They are just so expensive. They are about $12 a pound up here. Even the lychee are about $7.
That certainly is one big tree. I wish we could grow them up here.

In fact, many of these fruits are not found in China but in much more tropical environments. And yes, these fruits are cut-throat expensive!I don't love eating durian, but I do love its smell. I do love eating the "Jewish" mangoes though.

man, all of you who like durians are crazy! i was curious about them and picked one up at an asian grocery store about a year ago. after tearing my hands up on the rind and finally getting the damn thing open i tried a bite and it tasted like friggin rancid onion, sweaty feet and banana all rolled into one. freakin gross. not to mention that after only one bite i was burping the nasty stuff for hours after.
Yup, durian sure is some wild stuff. I'm kinda ambivalent towards them. I can take it or leave it. But I'll never eat more than three or four pieces. One time, my parents bought some, and when I entered their house, I immediately thought that they had a gas leak.
