I was looking for something that makes others smile, happy.... but also makes me smile.... helping jerky system abusers isn't my idea of fun.

You can serve food at a homeless shelter.

I found literacy tutoring rewarding but it was also a lot of work, preparing lessons.

Children's hospital. Just go sit and play video games with cancer patients. You just have to let them win. (insert Dave Chappelle skit here)

I'd really like to do the soup kitchen thing for a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, but have not done that. A friend does and says its pretty funny watching the smelly sums complain about how bad the food is, but most are happy to get something to eat.

Not sure about "volenteering" but I did some volunteering work at the Special Olympics in high school. That was fun and rewarding for me.
Did you win?

Scot - what about "Big Brother" or something? You get to mentor a kid, take them out, etc, etc... You like kids, so that'd probably be great for you to do.

If you like animals, you can also have your pet certified for pet therapy at hospitals. You get to take the animal in to see sick people (kids, a lot of the time, but also older people) - that'd be pretty neat as well.

Or Scot, you could organize something big. Some kind of charity event for American Cancer Society or something. Spend a couple hours a week working on that and then hold it some weekend and make a ton of loot for someone.

forgot to add, buying carfax accounts and giving out free reports would be VERY VERY rewarding.
