Interesting...my wife and I got into a pretty heated discussion over that same thing...cremation versus burial. We're Roman Catholic...so cremation is not that cool...but I really think it's a little absurd to get buried. Seriously, after a few years...what's the use? No one will visit. No one will care. I figure if I get cremated, I take up less space and "cermonially" (is that a word)...I can be "spread" in the mountains...or something like that.

I think in yesteryears, it made sense to get buried. Most people lived their entire lives in the same town/city. Nowadays, we are so transient...

Anyways...

^ Yeah, I don't see the point of burial for myself. Sure, if I had done something impressive with my life, and I thought that 100 years from now, someone might come across my grave and say, "Wow, I remember him... he did such-and-such and was a great contribution to society", then maybe it would be appropriate to be buried and taking up space for 100s of years. Unfortunately, I realize that I'm really not that important. So, just recycle my worthless ass.

As for my funeral... I'm pretty close w/ my family, so my parents, siblings and cousins will all be there. Other than that, I might have 5 friends that would show up. Maybe less.

So you're assuming you will die before your parents do?

I told my wife that I want to be cremated. Then I want one of my buddies to take my ashes out for one last autocross run. No funeral, but a party to celebrate my life would be nice. Then she can toss the ashes in a dumpster.

I'm guessing about 20 family members and close to 100 autocrossers and friends would show up for the party.

Scot, can you evite me to your funeral?

I want to have my body shot into outerspace so that when I'm found by aliens I can be reanimated and then I'll take over their planet.

Oh, oops. I guess I was just thinking, "If I died today," who would attend my funeral.

Hopefully, by the time I die I'll be married w/ kids, so I guess they might attend, too. I didn't really think the question through.

New Orleans-style funeral. Marching bands, food, and bourbon. . . lots of bourbon.
