Default What are your thoughts on this car?

I am considering buying a Suburu Legacy GT wagon...black on black.

Any experiences with Suburu's, the 2.5 Boxer 4cyl, the Legacy lineup, etc.

Also what are your thoughts if you are not a past/current owner? Opinions on how the car looks and performs will be noted.

Thank you.

PS. This will take the place of my Lude.

Being a current Subaru owner and having driven the legacy a few times when I needed a loaner, I can definently say that it is a well built car. The AWD in these cars is amazing. Its so fun being able to drive through big snow drifts without having to worry one bit. The new styling is in my opinion a step in the right direction from the previous design. The 2.5 Boxer is a very torquey engine for a 4 cyclinder and provides pretty good punch. One time when driving an automatic Outback with the 2.5 I was pleasently suprised at the get up and go that it had. Good luck in your decision , I hope i was of some help.

PS. If u want to browse a Subaru board that is very well established, I'd check out www.i-club.com I know its mainly based on the impreza but there are legacy forums there too and the people there should be pretty knowledgeable.

Are SUVs out of the question? The new Toyota Highlander might fit the bill. Although, the Legacy (new one) DOES have more ground clearance than the Ford Explorer Sport....Hmmm
Just thinking out aloud

WRX "wagon" doesn't have the room I'm looking for, especially when considering carrying 2-3 big dogs, big luggage, and so on.

SUV's aren't totally out of the question, however, my fiance and I have driven small, lower cars aggressively (and aggressively defensive) for our whole lives. I'd hate to get into a situation where learnned responses of driving sports (and sporty) cars take over when driving a larger SUV.

Some of the smaller SUV's that have been our list just don't fit the bill with required power, towing capacity, and so forth (read: CRV, Rav4, and others).

Suburu was a natural choice when making a AWD driveline apart of our new or used car requirement. I feel secure in Suburu's engineering of AWD systems. Other wagons on our list were a used '98 or '99 BMW 540iAt wagon (yum, six speed manual with the 5 series engine). However, the rear wheel drive with tail happy characteristics in Chicago winters is not what I'm looking for. Another wagon on the short list is the Volvo V70, but do question the durability of its engine.

The other plus for the Suburu is that the 2.5 boxer has a good aftermarket following due to the 2.5 RS Impreza. The futue could hold a turbo upgrade for the wagon.

If you're thinking aftermarket; then go for the Subaru. The Highlander for example just won't cut it when it comes to aftermarket parts since it has the Camry frame, and the Camry's 3.0l V6. Another question is..how much do you want to spend? If money is not a problem, how about the BMW X5? mmmm

I really don't want to spend too much on aftermarket or on the basic car.

The suburu would probably get some 17's on it, some lowering springs (with performance shocks), and quite possibly a small turbo upgrade.

A bimmer would never get anything like that....it needs to maintain it's level of class.

I want to save my upgrade and aftermarket money for Mugen for the S2K.

Have you checked out the Subaru Forester? It has the 2.5 engine and is quicker than the Legacy. The room is pretty decent. I haul my 110lb. Chocolate Lab and other stuff all the time. It handles exceptionally well... Give it a look...
