When pride overcomes
Lasted 3 days in basic? Umm, hardly... I stated that on the 2nd day I wanted out, wanted to go home... told a drill instuctor I did not want to be there... then after that day it wasn't even crossing my mind... I then was there for about 6 weeks and almost finished, signed paper work to stay in basic however was discharged anyway. I have been told from Army, friends... more Army, even Marines that if they had a branch to do it all over again after realizing there just a number the AF treats you alot better... Just like that 1st Lt who bled on his flak jacket when wounded they took it off threw it and burned it... later charged him $700 for it. HAH!

They are trying to harden you so that you go from 17 kid into a tough person mentally and physically. The poor "treatment" is by design to find who can handle it and who can not. They don't want to have to babysit soldiers if something bad happens. That's the point.

SRT4banger you sound like me some years ago. What suggest you do is to set goals for yourself. Short term and long term.
Like for me I wasted my parents money in college (partying) and I had to take a step back and find out what I wanted to do in life. I even got in trouble with the law a few times.
Well to say the least, I had disappointed alot of people and that hurt me as well. So I made the decision to join the Army and start over.
This was the best choice I ever made in my life. In the service I found the discipline that was always there inside me and I achieved.
I went from E-1 to E-5 in 2 1/2 years got an AS degree in the service
as well as military training that can be used in the real world. On top of that $50,000 for college which I am using right now to get a BA in Criminal Justice.
But best of all, everybody looks up to me now and that is the best feeling in the world! The military provided me with direction and has opened many doors of opportunity.
It sounds to me that you just need some direction. And the military in general may be a good choice for you.
As far as which branch, go with the one that will give you the best benefits and a job you can use as a civilian.

you just have to follow through whatever you get yourself into. accomplish something you want to do and the money will come later.
you are young. time is on your side. use it or you will regret it when you get older.
