Where were you on 9/11/01?
8th grade. Had just gotten off the bus and two of my good friends had told me "A plane hit the World Trade Center", just before we walked into the building. At that second, I was really unaware of the WTC and what it stood for. Still, my day was filled with the same things y'alls' were, and I can probably still recall every second of the day and talking to everyone about it in Algebra.
I was finishing up my packing and getting ready to head to the airport for a flight to New York. My dad calls in to me and says "you aren't going anywhere...get in here!"
I came in just in time to see the second plane hit and realized how lucky I was to have not flown in the day before as was originally planned. I very well could have been on top of the trade towers, as that was on my agenda of touristy things I wanted to do.
Crazy to think about.

I was in the 6th grade when 9/11 occurred. I got into a fist fight with another student, and the assistant principal pulled us both aside and said, "Today is a really horrible day to get into a fight, don't you two think?" He had us apologize to eachother and decided not to suspend us...
That was the only good thing about that day.

In college, physics class.
My dad worked at the Pentagon, and his office was part of the rubble. Thank goodess it was under construction or my mother would be a widow today.
I was frantic for a few hours wondering if my father had been murdered by terrorists.

you guys are a bunch of kids. jesus!
I was at work and a friend/customer called me and told me what happened. At first I thought he meant it was a small plane or something, not a commercial airliner, he was on the roof of his building in New York when the first plane hit and was only about 1/2 mile away.

and only found out that it was real when I turned on to 91.1 fm (91X San Diego) and heard Chris Cantore talking about it in a very serious tone.
Having breakfast in a hotel lobby in Nashville. I'd just brought stuff out to the car and saw what appeared to be a big fire somewhere. I didn't hear any details so sort of thought it was local news. While we were getting ready to eat, the story became clear. We had been planning to fly home about 6 that night. Instead we took our rental to a local Barnes & Noble, bought a road atlas and charted a course home avoiding NYC. We called the rental company at the Kentucky/Ohio line, letting them know we would return the car to a location near home. We made it to Buffalo that night before stopping for sleep.
The Ohio radio stations had a bunch of absolte idiots on, encouraging hording gas and the local responded with outrageous prices.
