I've just won the bidding for a nav system from a shop in Germany. It's about $US1000. My intention is to pay by CC. Anyone know what sort of protection I have from ebay or my CC company (VISA)?

Your CC also offers you fraud protection by means of the ability to charge back the transaction to the merchant thru the issuing bank. Merchants HATE it when you chargeback because they have to pay back the transaction amount plus an average of 15% chargeback fee to the issuing bank. All my online auction and paypal payments I use my CC just because if things aren't the way I like it then I still have the option to do a chargeback.

This is a good topic...I have a guy right now who wants to trade my S2K CD player for a brand new Panasonic CD player...he claims to be honest. Sofar has given me his adress, phone number and even his local police department number....We just contacted each other thru emails...this is outside the use of EBay...How can I protect myself??
BTW he wasnts me to ship to him first..

I've been burned through ebay before... basically, I always use a credit card,
either through paypal or by some direct payment the seller has. If something
goes wrong, have the CC company deal with it.
Sorry to hear about getting burned on front lip though.... I would still go through
the ebay buyer protection plan.... yes, it's a pain in the ass, but if you can get
something back, it'll be worth it.
