Who here has had surgery and wants to talk about it?
Also, how much does the price for the operation typically range? Anyone have the percentage of people who actually get it done? I heard it's getting trendy around here, with normal people getting it done.
I am currently waiting for a liver transplant.
My wife had her stomach removed during an operation to remove a stromal tumor. The tumor was much larger than they expected and attached to the back of the stomach. They also found cancer in three spots and removed it (2 on her diaphragm and one on her liver).
She occasionally experiences dumping after having eaten too much sugar laden food. She has also found that she cannot digest foods like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. She also has to chew all medication in order to get it to work because of not having a stomach to dissolve them.

I've had a capsular shift on my right shoulder. It used to dislocate if I sneezed too hard. If anyone lives in the NYC metro area and needs a good orthodedic, I know a few who are truly the best in the city.
My mother recently had open heart surgery to repair a leaking valve. This was after the leaking valve caused a minor stroke. I will never, ever, ever complain about being in a sling because of shoulder surgery again. She was in physical therapy for the stroke and surgery, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and couldn't drive or work for over a year. Her scar is cooler than mine too.

Knee surgery. Lateral release. Major PITA.
A note to those with muscular/tendon/joint type surgery....do your rehab!
I did mine for a while and quit because the knee felt fine, but it later started to give me problems so I would lay off the knee and not exercise it. It did not help. Only when I started to hit the weights hard with the leg did the pain go away. It was not pain from overuse, it was pain from weakness caused by the surgery and some hard work is necessary for recovery.

Right now I have a bulging disk in the neck from whip-lash injury that is causing numbness in the left index finger and the inside of the middle finger. I saw the surgeon and he looked at the MRI film and said it wasn't bad enough to do surgery on and I am now going to rehab three times a week for traction, ultra-sound and massage. He said it may or may not get better over time and I should just get used to it!
