why do people create their own financial misery?
i grew up around well off people. and as you talk about dysfuntional poor families, i think of all the dysfuntional rich familes i knew. it is possible that when people have more money, they COULD have better family structure, but 99% of the time, it is not true.
i do not disagree with you, Scot, but i still dont know for sure if the well off responsible people are any happier than the in debt people. sometimes wrongly thinking you're the shit is better than honesty trying to be the shit.

Then why don't you start a thread that you find more interesting? I thought this thread was pretty funny at times.

Heres a good one for you people...
My best friend's cocky counsin-in-law and his stuck-up wife lives in this one room efficiency in the back of some guy's house. This room is literally smaller than my master bedroom in my house and their bathroom is the size of the bathrooms on an airplane. He works for Bellsouth doing customer service making $10 / hour while his wife is unemployed as far as I know.
Besides all the appliances in their one little room, they managed to stuff in a king size bed, a dresser, top of the line Dell XPS PC with a Dell 21" LCD monitor, a 50" Samsung flat panel LCD HDTV (BTW they can't even get an HD signal
) and a Pioneer home theater system. Hanging from one end of the room to the other is a rod that they use to hang their designer clothes from Banana Republic.
They share a single car - a fairly new Nissan Maxima with chrome 19" wheels and a $5K stereo system.
I remember when I got my S2000, I drove it over to my friend's house for him to check it out and his counsin-in-law was there. He goes, "Whats that, your overpriced fag-mobile?" I replied, "For someone that makes ten bucks an hour and lives in a one room shithole, pretending to be someone that you're clearly not, you have a big ****ing month." He turned around and left.

I just don't get it. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I was a slave to my bills. I mean, I KNOW for a fact, I don't wear cool clothes, or drive the best car (although I do have an S2K) or have the newest gadgets. Sometimes I wish I did, and probably I do wish I had even more disposable income to be able to treat myself on some of these things. The problem is I have a budget and I stick to it. And I have PLANS for my future. So when I want to buy all that I remember things like paying bills, paying for my grad school loan, 401K, additional retirement planning, etc. and I remember that you CAN strike a balance between enjoying yourself now, and making sure that I don't have to be bagging groceries when I'm in 80 years old. Whenever I really want to indulge in something, I save for it, and don't buy it until I can afford to pay it outright, or within a reasonable time.
I really would hate to buy all the cool stuff if I would sweat it everytime the credit card bill came up. It's better to work to live, that to live to work (to pay off your bills).
Dude scot, you haven't figured out anything new. People with descipline, and money management skills are gonna make/save more money. No one has the right to judge or choose another persons life.
Besides, if you convince everyone to be like you, who's gonna rent your proerties? who's gonna make the retail store owners rich? Money keeps flowing one way or another, just keep your eyes on it, and place yourself in a desirable position.
