I've looked at those before. Personally, I found them to be significantly off in regards to my personal field of expertise (such as it is) and don't expect them to be accurate in others.

Out of curiosity, I did a search for nurse anesthetists (what my brother-in-law is doing) and the starting salaries are typically higher (per monster.com and other job sites) than the highest salaries listed on salary.com. I'll bet you'll find similar disparities if you look up salaries in your own area...

I know guys that graduated with me that made $75K a year out of school. I know guys that made $39K. I can guarantee that's not reflected in the information there (I checked).

lastly, a clinical pharmacist job (as opposed to a academic pharmacist) is relatively easy.
It's pretty rare for 25 year olds to be professors, too, but that's when she started. She's involved in both active practice (at a pharmacy) and teaching, including research. I honestly don't know what kind of research but it's required of her that she have a research program ongoing. I wasn't interested enough to ask...

Yeah, they were lying to you. There is a point at which the mechanics of a business and their stated income figure don't match up. Being a pharmacist is a job where you get paid not for your skill, but for not making mistakes.

I have an son of a business assoc here in Chicago who just finished a 7 year residency in Neurosurgery, and previously graduated from a top tier medical school. He's starting around 350K (and that's doing several operations a week costing $25K plus) not just filling scripts

on top of that, I have a friend from high school who graduated last year from Pharmacy school. She got both a Pharmd and PhD. Her best offer was in the low 120s. The teaching positions were all much less than $100k

There can be a premium for working in small towns, its just not 300%. I did work for a radiology practice far west of Chicago. They were so far out in the boonies (but busy) that they had to pay about 50% more for new hires just to get them to leave the attractions of the big city (enough money to convince their spouses that is)

as an example of more stupidity.... i just got an email from my sister with a picture of a kitten they are getting.... i am sure it will get sick, need vet service, etc......

it is amazing how little some people learn from their previous experiences..... she hates the $500 dog, so buy a ****ing kitten? Her credit score was under 500 less than a year ago when I pulled it for her...

edit - i just found out that the picture she sent me of the dog was from my 10 year old neices Cell phone.... even more good stuff..... my kids are 11 and 9 and have no use for a cellphone yet my poor as shit sister somehow gets one for her kid....

Scot, you sound a lot like me... have a hard time understanding people with what you feel is a lack of common sense... I've come to realize its probably not worth trying with these people, because they probably will never get it.

Some [most] people also simply have no desire to better themselves or their lives, either because they're just lazy or they're content just living month to month.

[QUOTE=S2020,May 30 2006, 04:48 PM] I was doubting this too.
I agree that all doctors must go to residency ($40-50K/year).

Call it all you want. The guys had no reason to lie about it. Maybe the pharmacist had part ownership in the pharmacy - I already said I didn't know - but that's what they were making. Live with it - sometimes not everything conforms to your world...

Secondly, perhaps your family and friends weren't as impressive as these people. The girl I mentioned is not only a practising pharmacist, she also teaches at the university. She's smarter than most people I know - she warranted an extraordinary offer.

Surgeons out of school aren't making that kind of money because most still have two to four years of working under another surgeon before they can work independently. Many "doctors" and surgeons only make $40-$60K their first few years while they complete their residencies.

I've got nothing to prove here. And, if all you call them is "pill pushers", your ignorance is bleeding through (no offense). It's like calling a nurse a stool transporter.
Hmm...let's see my relatives all graduated top tier in class, signed on to major hospital pharmacology residencies and have their PharmD, (some have MBAs as well). I'd say they're pretty well qualified thank you very much

It's just reality, supply and demand statistics that would prove there is no justification for a $400k pill pusher at the retail level. I'm working off of the info YOU provided. And don't be offended by the term pill pusher, it's typical slang that is not meant to be derogatory.

When you have practicing surgeons hovering $350-400k, it doesn't make sense for a relatively lower skill position to offer the same dosh.

Common sense.
