why do people create their own financial misery?

I was, vocationally speaking, raised in the restaurant and retail meat businesses (my now deceased father and a peternal uncle having owned and operated dinner houses and butcher shops). Said businesses were quite successful, which enabled them to make still more money buying and selling vacant land which, in turn, allowed them to invest in yet more businesses. One of which was the "country store" business.
So in, should memory serve, 1975, they simultaneously purchased two separately owned "country stores" in two separate small rural towns located some fifteen apart from one another. One of these towns was made up of predominately upper-income homeowners/horse enthusiasts, while the other town consisted of mostly low-income renters/drug and alcohol "aficionados."
Now then, Scot, before I continue, which of these two "country stores," in your opinion, was the most successful, and, most importantly, why do you suppose it to have been the most successful of the two?
Peace.

Actually, the ever accelerating level of abuse with respect to credit cards is but yet another symptom of the fact that American workers have not enjoyed an increase in "real wages" since 1973, all the while we have increased our collective productivity infinitely. IOW, financially speaking, we - the American working-class have been headed in a backward direction for some thirty-three years.

the "middle class" can head upward or downward based on their will. Why don't we all go lament the highschool drop out who says "why can't a working man in this country afford a home for his family?" or "this is America, we should all get free healthcare!"

I hated spending 45 minutes explaining to them that Medi-Cal doesn't provide for color contact lens (because color contact lens are NOT a medical necessity - and, no, I can't lie about that), as opposed to seeing the eye injury in the ER.

Isn't it amazing!!!! They gave away free bikes at a local church at x-mas. They showed the "peeps" on tv receiving the free bikes with their leather coats on, stylish hair, etc........ I was thinking they should go to poor people?

Any thoughts, Scot?
I would imagine the ghetto folks buy cigs by the pack also, since they can't buy a full carton at a time........
so....what do I win? Or maybe the twist is that the store gets robbed way more and therefor the other store is actually more profitable.

I would have to say that a small conveience store is way more successful in the ghetto.... people love to buy chips and other crap food at the uni-mart across the street from where I work (i work near the projects)..... kids/ parents / grandparents.... they all love chips / soda and anything else that causes obesity and diabetes....
