Another advantage of having hair on your body....at least for animals that aren't clothed: When sweat glands secrete sweat, there is some pheremones that are releases with the sweat, given proper conditions. Hair retains the moisture from the sweat longer, as the moisture dries out, more of the pheremones are spread out on the hair, while lasting longer.....this is probably why the Tom Selleck types get all the babes.

I for one have had a running joke with my friends and fiance about me getting hairier as I age: Since I have hair on my chest (moderate hair, not like Tom Selleck), which runs down to my stomach and then down to my privates, I explain it as that it is a furry love trail that leads the girl down to the love forest with the one big tree trunk and two sizable fruits that have fallen from the tree.....

How's that for a visual....

Unfortunately the hair on my head stopped growing before I did.

Is that "part" of evolution too?

okay, as the young 20 year old kid with all the answers, he's why we have body hair:

a) Body hair is soft and comfy, making it easier for mates to sleep on your chest in the night

b) Armpit hair is actually there for three reasons. I) the true function is to dissipate extra body heat via being a conduit for perspiration to reach an evaporable area, as well as keep fingers warm when the wind blows in winter. II) To add pheremonic ambience to a the human aura. III) To have an area for deoderant manufacturers to market upon

c) Leg hair and arm hair: actually, firstly it's there to keep us warm and also, in hot weather, deflect some of the heat and help dissipate internal heat to the environment. secondly, it's a defence mechanism against big critters and some microbes.

d) It's there to help filter air, as humans don't only breath through the mouth and nose. Air actually, in a very VERY small amount, enters via the skin (we're talking like 0.000000001% here people) and helps remove the upper dermal layer so that the "new" layers below can push to the surface

TADAAA! Now I know I'm nowhere near scientifically accurate, but hell, it's FUN
