That wasn't why I gave my first dumb look.

But, if you're assuming that communism inherently means that everybody gets/got "paid" the same, then I'll again.

Oh yeah, and since religion and communism have now been brought up. . .

Honestly...in most people's minds, fairness=money, so fairness=communism.

Not even close.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.

"fairness" can be defined and acheived. we just have to define it.

what i meant with this thread was that i find myself upset very often that things are not fair. they are so far from fair. i grew up in a christian elementary school where bad things were "ok" because they would be rectified somehow by a greater power. this is obviously not true.

im just wondering if u guys/girls had to deal with the disillussionment (sp) and did you "solve" it in your mind?

I couldn't say that I've solved it in my mind, but I did learn how to deal with it.

life is not fair. And to think that we probably have it on the upper echelon, I can't imagine what it would be like if we weren't so fortunate.

I'm sure the media overplays some of the developing nation's woes, but without health, food, safety, maybe some people/countries do deserve a bit of spotlight.

I'd like to think we can all measure life in happyiness, and that by the time we die, we all get the same amount of joy in our lives. Maybe its just wishful thinking.

it all boils down to the fact that we, like every other critter on the planet are subject to the checks and balances that govern every living in the universe. we must eat, breed and survive. everything that happens along the way is insignificant.

As soon as we provided for ourselves more than we needed to and freed up time for thoughts that centered on things other than survival, religion, morality, and laws leapt out of our brains. Since then, we all have been living under the false pretense that we somehow are above the laws of the universe.

We think we have a bead on whats right and wrong and have tried vainly to define our own world as we see fit. Everytime we are proved wrong we think how crazy or unfair things are when in fact it is just the plain truth rearing its ugly head.

Call me crazy but, go back 10K years and see how the people back then lived and how they perceived right from wrong. When you are boiled down to your core elements the gray area of right and wrong or fair vs. unfair is virtually removed completely.

All of our basis for morality and fairness is based on the fact that we no longer spend 100% of our day securing our survival as a species.

Look at any animial species with any kind of percievable social structure and I guarantee they no longer have to spend the entirety of their day in the search for the elements they need to survive.

I find your comment very interesting and agree with you. However I wanted your opinion as to whether life is not fair now bec we have moved out of the stone ages? I would think that bec we no longer have to worry about survival that our lives are easier, and on the whole human kind is better off. I could see the other side with wealth element, yes there is more unfairness as to where you are born into. But even in the stone ages, if you were born hadicapped though, you lucked out and therefore I would be inclined to say life's not fair.
