Lions vs wildebeest is unfair. But they don't think like humans. So if you can rationalize between what's fair and what's not, why give up before striding towards fairness? 1 person being treated fairly is better than no one being treated fairly, so...

What would make life "fair" to begin with?

And "fair" is not an objective concept. It is highly subjective.

Some people would think that violating a contract like marriage should be highly punished. While others would think that if they weren't "in love" then it's okay.

You'll never get the world to be "fair" because it's the people getting the short end of the stick who are unhappy... but they in turn don't complain when they're the beneficiaries. So life is fair and unfair to everyone at different times...

I don't know that anyone thinks life is completely "fair" (whatever definition you attach to that). Rather, when we see/experience a situation we see as unfair it appeals to our desire for a better world, one that is more fair. To me it makes perfect sense that as we progress, society would want things to be more fair (and perhaps *gasp* take action to make it so).

To say simply that "life isn't fair" is something I think we all know - we can use it as an opportunity to grow and improve, or we can just bitch about it.

Honestly...in most people's minds, fairness=money, so fairness=communism.

sometimes life isn't fair

but that doesn't mean stop living the life that god meant you to live

In life it's always better to enjoy life the best you can and try to remain focused and positive and be humble enough to know the differences
