Default why I don't want to buy any diamonds

I might have a bumper sticker made:

I can express my everlasting love
without enriching diamond cartels.

I don't want to ever buy any more diamonds for my girlfriend... but the tough part is, how to break the myth and not make her sad?

Have You Ever Tried to Sell a Diamond?

The diamond industry is a COMPLETE racket. De Beers works in a way very similar to the the Cocaine cartel. They buy out corrupt African leaders with the goal of locking them in with Debeers or one of its subsidiaries. In exchange they get cheap, cheap manual labor.

A diamond is not forever and there definetly is an endless supply of diamonds. Plus the fact that diamonds are being traded for weapons means that you are supporting war crimes by buying a diamond.

I made a fair trade with my wife a long time ago. We go on a trip anywhere she wants every couple of years instead of "upgrading" her wedding ring.
