Why are Macs so damn expensive?

Mac's are expensive because Apple has a hell of a marketing monster on their hands. They get premium dollar for most all of their products because of the asthetic qualities. Every damn piece of hardware and software they put out, is simply put, "beautiful."

It's all great quality, too, to top it off.

That being said, I've never owned anything made by them

A 20" Cinema Display would be nice

I've never owned a PC -- have grown up using Apple and I know they are freaking expensive. They're not too bad if you can get them used though. I remember 2 years ago I bought a 14" ibook for $3,000. When a couple friends found out they freaked -- I suppose that amount of $$ could get a pretty good PC.

Apple is hardware exclusive -- you can't go to a computer shop and put in 3rd party parts (other than a video card or extra hardrive) or build your own apple computer from scratch. They purposely have less stock than there is demand to create a want for a product.

I bought a 2.0 G5 2 months ago with a 23" monitor and that cost me about $6,500 (canadian) after taxes.. Eeek. I think they're a good investment though and like it was stated above -- are extremely aesthetic.

os x 10.3 may be neat and pretty looking. but the support for software on non industrial usage blows.

Mac's are expensive because it's brand name warrants the price. Why do you pay what you pay for an authentic Luis Vuitton bag (if you are a women). Why do you pay what you pay for a Ferrari or Bentley?
