Why are Macs so damn expensive?

No one talks about viruses on macs because people don't write viruses for macs. People don't write viruses for macs because not many people use macs. Someone writing a virus for a mac would be like someone robbing a homeless man, like a terrorist bombing an iceberg in the artic, or like someone trying to water ski in the sahara desert.

I'm a video/broadcast producer/editor. The stability of a Mac is second to NONE! I have yet to have a crash in the 1 1/2 years I've had my G4. A program freezes, you end THAT program (which has only happened a handful of times). No unstability (check the task manager warning window on your PC when you end a process). It seems to fix it's own problems. I haven't called a tech to my office since purchasing the G4. On top of the $10,000 (I've spent $6000 on the Mac not including software) I spent on an equivelant windows PC (that was cutom built/configured by alienware), I had techs at my house at least once a week when the workload was heavy. Lost 2 possible Emmy nominee pieces due to crash so I sold that, bought the Mac, and now I'll never think twice about what platform to get.

I've had more mac's crash than pc's. No matter what, everyone is going to have their opinion about which is better. I grew up with pc's and I love them despite problems they've had in the past. I think its great that educational institutions are moving away from Mac's--everyone I've used at school I have had problems with. I must give mac's a thumbs up for having some interesting looking computer designs.

most of the time the ones at schools are screwed up due to poor networking or etc... we had problems at my university with our mac lab but yet my work computer and my home computer work far superior to my old PC's

Like I said, this argument will never end. If you like your PC, then ok. If you like your Mac, ok. You will never be able to compare them. It is which ever one suits you best. But if you've only used your school 4 year old Mac and say it crashes daily, umm yeah.

OS 9, I admit, blew. I never liked it. The OS was snappier because it had less eye candy. OS X is another world in itself. Simple, yet complicated. If you use a Mac with an open mind for a month and just look around and enjoy the scenery, I'm sure you'd enjoy it. Don't just base your argument on my teacher's son's 6 year old Mac running OS 7.

Hell, If you hate working on G5s, send one over, I'd be glad to work on it.

One flaw I have with 10.3 though is the networking. So slowwwwww.
