I'm having lunch with my boss and the waiter asks what I'd like to drink. I say beer and he gives me this funny look then he orders one too. So why is ordering beer during lunch not kosher???

It's alchohol. Alcohol is a substance that when taken causes intoxication. The intoxication of alcohol (in this case ethyl alcohol) causes depression, especially CNS depression. This depression even in minor amounts does affect performance. Performance altering drugs are not looked upon happily in the workplace.

I know this question may get mixed results for answers, but:

Would you want your brain surgeon to have a beer at lunch before your operation?

Seriously go to Germany or any European country and 9 year old kids buy beer. Beer and wine is treated as something normal. I don't know why alcohol is such a taboo in the U.S. I guess some of us don't know how to drink properly.
