My company recently purchased a plant in Tarragona, Spain. Over there they have beer and wine with lunch in the plant. This is a chemical manufacturing facility.

It is strange to see but it is the norm over there.

"Haw, let's turn this valve and see what happens."

tick, tick, tick

I'll tell you why its frowned upon/prohibited. Because alot of people can't handle their alcohol, even in small amounts. A group of coworkers and i went out to lunch, and i ordered a beer as i often do with my meals. next thing i know, everyone thinks my idea is great and starts ordering pitchers. fast-foward to the end of the story and at the end of the day 1 of the guys we were with is fired.

Oh yea and ninethreeeleven, that was the funniest thing i've seen all goddamn day.

i think it depends who you have lunch with and the situation. if it's your boss and it's a working lunch, i would let him/her order the drink first and if it's non-alcoholic, then i'd follow suit. if it was a celebratory lunch, then perhaps it would be safe to order alcohol.

interesting fact...at coors brewing company in golden, colorado, they have beer on tap in the employee cafeteria.

(is someone becoming an alcoholic? hmmmm... )

One lousy beer will NOT affect any adult's performance. But in professional business luncheon, alcoholic beverages are generally looked down upon.

I remember a while ago, I went to lunch with a bunch of bosses and other non-bosses. I ordered a Pina Colada and everybody was cracking up at me. I gave them a grin, and shook it off. If it's good, I'm gonna drink it. One drink ain't gonna kill me or affect my performance in any way. And that drink is much stronger than a beer. Besides that, we were not going back to work anyway. So it didn't even make a difference, except that some of them were drooling at my Colada.
