Why are people in the midwest so damn fat?

americans are getting lazier.
fat people wouldn't want to go to the gym, cause they are too fat. so only fit people go.
now...wouldn't that be a hell of an idea .....? Gyms for FAT people only. If you are not 50 lbs. overweight or higher, you are simply not admited.

However, America.. *sigh* ...only a matter of time until someone slaps a suit on you.

Another thing I've noticed is "buffet-style" restraunts seem to be a lot more popular in the midwest than on the east or west coast.
This could be. I generally avoid buffets for this very reason (I'd much rather have a small good meal than loads of mediocre food), so I never really paid attention to the quantity of buffets in the towns I visit.

Locally we had a big deal about kids weights...... the kids were supposed to all visit the nurse, then the obese kids were to be sent a note home telling the parents that their kids were fat...... all the fat parents got all pissed off and said it was none of the schools business!

I would think the fat parents should care about the kids and recognize the problem....but it is easier to just get pissed about it vs actually controlling what your kid eats!

mmmmm....M&M's.....
It's none of the schools business, but parents as a whole want the schools to raise their kids for them. The "problem" with this method is that it implies the parents aren't doing right for their kids (accurately, I'd say), and heaven forbid anyone accepts a bit of responsibility for themselves and their children.

and if you notice what people eat.. it's phreaking disgusting... c'mon now.. please dont' complain about your weight if you refuse to pic up a fork and eat your salad... i swear one night i was a this benefit dinner and sat next to a rather obese woman.. desert was served and it was fresh strawberry shortcake.. i picked out and ate the fresh strawberries and put the whipped cream aside, while the woman next to me put aside the strawberries and just ate the whipped cream...

I have a coworker who constantly complains about her weight (I'd say she's 5'2", pushing a good 225-250), about how she can't lose weight, etc.

This is the same woman that uses a pull cart to bring in her lunch and snack foods every day. I shit you not. The first time I saw her, I thought she was bringing in the design floor junk food stash (from which ~500 people snack), it was that much food. It'd feed me for a week, easily.

i heard on the news a couple of weeks ago that this overweight man was on a flight and the airline (i forget which one, but i think it was JetBlue) asked him to pay for 2 seats because he was so large. i think he ended up suing them and he was on the news saying that he was humiliated because he was singled out. well, i fly every week for work and i have sat next to people who spill out of their seats. it makes it SO uncomfortable for me. if a person is THAT big that the airline can't fit another person in the seat next to them, and the airline is losing money on that seat, do you think it's just fair for them to pay for 2 seats?

I am stuck in the KC airport and bored. Looking around confirms what I notice every time I visit the midwest -- just about everyone is fat, at least a little bit and there are quite a few folks who are so fat you find yourself wondering how they accomplish the little things in life --- putting on socks, taking a dump, etc.

Am I alone here or has anyone else noticed the disproportionate number of fat and VERY fat folks in our nations mid-section?
Thats funny because my girlfriend was in the KC airport last week and said some guy came up to her and told her she was the most beautiful girl he had see in a long time. She is petite. She said she looked around and noticed everyone was kinda big.

Got some chubbies up here in Minne, but I don't know that is is any worse here than anywhere else. I am have a 29 inch waist and when I go to buy pants the racks are full of 38-44 inch waist stuff. Maybe there are more chubbies than I think.

What do you think the gym chain "Curves" is all about? It's meant for fat women who would otherwise feel "out of place" at a regular gym. Now, I didn't know this, so you can imagine how amusing my mother-in-law thought it was when I told her I considered going there since there's one so close to home. In her words "I wouldn't be allowed in".

Seriously though, it really is gross. Go anywhere & look around. I bet you'll see 75% or more of the people are over-weight.

Here's one of the problems I see. Doctors generally do not talk to their patients about this. I can tell you that I've never had a doctor say to me "do you work out and if so, how often?". I read in a magazine that most doctors don't do this because they don't want to make patients feel uncomfortable. Yeah, that's right, let the patient get heart disease & die of a heart attack rather than say something. Riiiiiiiiight.

And how many of you chicks have noticed the change at places like Gap & Old Navy. I can recall that, years ago, Old Navy would have jeans and stuff up to maybe a size 12 or 14. Now, you can find all of the pants/shorts/skirts in sizes up to 22+! I can't tell you how many times I've picked up some really cute pair of pants & asked my husband if anyone who's a size 22 should be wearing it! I mean, do you want to see a size 22 chick wearing low-rise cargo pants?!
