Default Will It Mend?

I have a 1" tear in my top right above the rear corner of the passenger window.

It is slowly getting bigger each time i open and close the top.

I also have wear marks on the driver side that will eventually lead to the same issue in time.

So what do i do? replace the top you say?

NO! it is time for Mighty mend it.

for 10 bucks at your local walmart, you too can buy mighty mend it (with a free mighty gem it bottle)

I used some thread to close the hole (it was best to keep the top up, when i opened it part way, the hole separated further) and applied a little of Billy Mays secret sauce onto the tear.
I then went underneath and applied it to the tear as well as some of the other wear marks to see if it might stop the fraying.
I also applied it to the driver side while i was at it.

will it work?
i dont know. I will try to keep you updated.
I am hoping to not replace my top for a few more years.

Here are some pics to see what i am talking about.

Did it melt the vinyl, or is that just what the paste looks like?

If you had put a backing on there, then yes, it would mend it. With the stitching, maybe. Just the glue, temporary at best.

I had the same size tear and I tried every "miracle glue" I could find. Some held for a few days but as soon as the top goes up and down a few times the glue fails. I ended up sewing on a patch.

Why not just put a bit of a patch on the inside and load it up with some kind of epoxy (I used Goop to apply preventative patches inside my roof)?

You're trying to attach the tiniest mating surfaces together, but could use a patch and have plenty of surface to bond.

I think I would've spent the extra $1 and bought a spool of black thread. GL with the "mend"
