Hey President Not Sure

I was able to patch a cut in my top by using a 3m contact cement that is used to bond parts to commercial airliners. Clean the offending area, took a small piece of top material and apply the cement to the patch as well as the inside of the top. If it peels off then I'd like to see what the rest of the top looks like

I'll snag a picture of the stuff I used next time i'm in the shop and you can see if anywhere around you sells it.
I guess I've tried everything except industrial grade stuff . I did try some 3M adhesive that didn't work but it didn't say anything being about airline grade. Post a link if you find it. Where did you get an patch of top material? That would be really handy, and how long has your patch lasted?

Thanks

Here's the stuff I used. The brush I used accidentally touched the top of the can which also had a thin layer of adhesive and I ended up having to cut the bristles off the brush and they are still inside the can.

If someone needs a small piece of top material I can cut a piece and send it in an envelope.

Tried the mighty mend it, with black thread AND a backing. It was coming off every few days, but it held up reasonably well.

Update:
after a few weeks and 10+ up and downs of the top...

it seems to be holding from the outside.

from the inside, i can see some separation, but it always ends up coming back together.

i can see that when i drop the top, the bar that causes friction sticks on the patch.

when the pollen stops, i will have to try a backing material that is low friction. it will reinforce the bond, and hopefully lessen the impact.

so far, i am very happy with the fix. $10 for a few months isnt bad.
