Default win xp question

i like to configure my xp so that the power scheme icon is in my taskbar, but occassionally, randomly, and out of the blues, the option somehow gets unchecked and the icon is no longer in my taskbar. what is going on?? how can this option just automatically get changed without my doing so??

Microsoft knows what's best for you. If they don't want the icon there, best leave it that way.

Do you have automatic update running? Your settings may be changing when updates are applied.

yeah, i do have automatic update. the puzzling thing is that i always configure my xp the same way. i've never had this problem in the past. it is only after this last time i reinstalled xp (a couple of months ago) that i am having this problem.

turn off automatic update for a while, and just check for updates once every week or two, and see if that changes things.
