Windows XP
Just the browser or the whole OS?
I just loaded XP on my laptop at work today. I was sceptical at first about if it would bring any benefits, but now that I've loaded it up I'm glad I did. My docking station works like it's suppossed to (it didn't before) and the coolest thing is that I put in my wireless LAN card and it completely set it up - all I had to do was type in the security key and I was on the network. I've spent 30-45 minutes configuring the same thing on win 95 machines. It was impressive.

I heard a news story promo saying there were some privacy issues with XP but missed the broadcast. I really, really dislike Windows ME intensely. My computer crashes all the time and had a major one this weekend losing everything. I'm definitely looking for an upgrade of some sort but worry about the newness of this program.
Windows XP is going to be much more stable than ME could ever be because it is based off of Windows 2000. I've been using 2000 for a year now and XP is very similar, but I think the improvements are enough for me to upgrade. I've been running XP Release Candidate 1 on my computer for a few weeks now and it's great. If you're running 98 or ME, I would highly recommend an upgrade if your computer hardware is up to snuff.

Can you run custom desktop items like Plus and is it configurable. Icon, Screen Savers, etc.? It also says it's quicker 54% as advertised? I'd like to hear some more users comments before I personally decide.

If you want to compare the features of Xp to a win9x version (and that includes ME) it will be tough. Windows XP is a blend of windows 2000 and MSN's browser called MSN Explorer. It is highly compatible, and the interface is a little cleaner, but it is basically windows 2000 at heart. This is a good thing though. In my opinion, the best new feature that windows2000 did not include is support for zip files. I know ME had this, but ME is not suitable for non @ home applications. To upgrade from 2000 is not a big move, but to migrate from ME or a 9x version will take some effort.
I'm sure it's nice and all, but check out this article:

I'm running 2000, and fine with it for now. I'll be content letting others be the guinea pig for a while.
