Default WinXP "Experience"?

I just installed XP pro last night and again early this morning. It's already crashed my icq about 3 times.

Just went from 2000 to XP, installing it was confusing to me the first time so I did it again. I didn't like how you have to create a user at the beginning since I use a domain. Everything seems hidden. I think I took care of all that I needed.

Too graphical like turning your OS into some underage OS, bet there is heaps of uncompatible software with the built technology nevertheless. With what Microsoft produces all the damn bloody time, I won't be expecting a proper stable version untill the revised edition which does take sometime to come. The first release is always like a public open test and trial only you have to pay for buying the product and report any kinda situation as product feedback and debugging, I'm not paying to be a guinea pig and hell besides ... I cannot stand windows and it's too non professional, so sue me Microsoft if you don't like my comments.

Right now I'm weighing the good and the bad.

I think you shoulda stayed with Win2000 since XP is taken from Win2000.

Just bought a Compaq laptop with XP home already loaded. I like the fast boot up times, but things are changed around in this OS compared to 2000. I've had to deal with random blue screens already, but Norton System Works fixed that one. There's some other bugs I'm dealing with applications, but for now, it's pretty stable (not as stable as my 2000 pro desktop at home), but I'm pretty happy with it now. Boot up times are super fast for me. I love hibernating mode.

XP does seem slow when I access a shared drive on my 2000 pro workstation (certain software takes for ever to get a directory listing, but explorer is fast. It has it's advantages and disadvantages over 2000, but I need more time on it to tell. So far, for my laptop, I like it. I have issues with the windows media player for xp skipping on dvd's, but I'm using the windvd player that came with the laptop instead now, and that's been flawless.

Here's the spec's: (Compaq Presario 1711US from Costco)
1.0 Mhz PIII m step
512MB RAM (added 256MB for $49 from Crucial)
30GB HD
DVD/CDR/CDRW combo drive
14.1 TFT active matrix screen

Overall, I like it when it's stable and has been for the most part. It needs a service pack soon though. As with any new software, you will have to get through the major bugs until the service pack is released, and then pray they fixed your problems!!!

sumir, can't go wrong with either 2000 or XP. XP has been fine for me, if there's a driver that doesn't work that was designed for XP, I use the Win2k version and it works fine. I've encountered one of these tonight, when trying to install my TV tuner.

oh took me a while to figure out how to lock the workstation (not in a domain), hehe...but that's about it
