looking at the pictures, it's funny how all the plans for building in Dubai show grass, when it actuality it's nothing but sand and dust.

I'm pretty sure that the 60000 I make a year doesn't compare to the millions it takes to build that beast. They can afford it however I cannot.
I mean they could've built a smaller building. Everything over in Dubia is the biggest and the best...Do they have to be so extreme? what is the point they are trying to make? Don't get me wrong, the buildings and stuff over there are great but wouldn't all the extremely excessive money be better used elsewhere? Now what?! I'll play your silly game!
I don't think Dubai has too many starving children. Spending money on feeding hungry children in another country is not an investment into the country's future economy, so it will have no direct positive impact on Dubai. That's why they built the worlds tallest building instead of feeding the hungry. It's not that hard to figure out.

I have to laugh..... because I'm not impressed.

The cost of that thing is more than the current stimulus package.

Dubai is the LAST place on earth I will go for a vacation. I don't care how tall they make the buildings and how much sand they cover up with grass.

if you guys would pull your heads out of your asses, you'd realize that the tower, and pretty much the whole booming tourist-related industry in dubai is, in effect, a 'stimulus package'

We have some friends that visited Dubai recently, during Ramadan. The tour buses have shades you can draw, so that you can drink water during the day without offending fasting Muslims who might look in the bus.

1. the burj is awesome. There's a video of a couple of BASE jumpers that leapt off of it.

2. Apparently there is a tower going up in Saudi Arabia that's supposed to be twice as tall.

3..Dubai is falling because of the world economic crisis. They were smart to try to build up a banking/luxury economy because they have no native oil like the other emirates. This crisis obviously comes at a bad time for them. They also have debtor's prison!!
