Default Would you buy a car with a salvage title?

Hey guys, I was going to buy a beater 94 Prelude Si from a friend of mine, but when we ran a carfax, it said that the car is salvaged. The weird thing is that we have a copy of the title right in front of us, and the title was clear. My friend bought this car a little over a year ago, and hes graduating now and needs to sell it asap. I know he never got into an accident while he's had it, and I was with him when he bought it, and the previous owner told us that it had never been in an accident. Do you think I should still buy it? It is in decent shape for a 94, and drives pretty good too. I don't expect it to be perfect, because it will be my beater/second car. Also, how much do you think I should pay him for it? Btw...it has 88k miles.

Thanks

Yeah, what dude said plus if it's a deal. That means NOT even close to blue book values.

Its got a "clear title" because its been "washed" by a dealer at some point, happens all the time. I think you've answered your question already though. It drives fine and looks ok, so why do you care if it has salvage history. The only concern you should have is resale value. Some people just refuse to buy such a car, so you market to get rid of it will be smaller and you might have to end up taking less for the car. If its a deal I would go for it.

Yea..thats exactly what I was thinking. It drives ok for a 10 year old car, and I will only be using it to keep miles off my other car. I'm going to test drive the car again later today, and make a decision then. I think I'll offer him around $2,500 and see what he says. I'm pretty sure that he'll say yes though, because he's leaving the country on Sunday and he's kinda desperate to get rid of it.

Find out why it's a salvage car. I bought a "94 Wrangler that was a theft recovery. Killer deal and there was really nothing wrong with it. If it's a flood car, steer clear, especially a salt water flood. It turns all the wiring into green mush. Other than that, if you don't mind, why not? Would you date a chick that had plastic surgery?

Haha thats true. All carfax tells me is that there was a severe accident or total loss. Heres a link to the carfax report http://www.carfax.com/cfm/FSBO.cfm?report=...CFX000005933002

Well, it's sounds like it's been cracked up pretty bad at one point or another, but if the price is right and you don't care about resale value, buy it and beat the ever-lovin' piss out of it!
