Would you buy a car with a salvage title?

Hey guys, I was going to buy a beater 94 Prelude Si from a friend of mine, but when we ran a carfax, it said that the car is salvaged.

Well. the carfax states that it was in a severe accident causing the salvaged title.. not because it was stolen. i probably would ask to take the car to a mechanic, have him check over everything.. then take it to a body shop, and see how well the repairs were turning it from totalled to drivable. then make my decision from there

my friend bought used Civic Si not to long ago.. no more than 3 weeks after getting it we had a bad rain storm.. started his car up not realizing it was in a puddle and it locked the motor... flooded the interior. car was totalled by insurance. he then went to the junkyard and bought car for $5k... spent some cash having motor fully rebuild... had custom interior installed.... he now has a perfectly running Civic Si that has a "Flood Damage" Title !

I'd be okay with a salvaged car if it were a great deal, ran well, and with the understanding that there's a higher risk in doing so.

If the car is going to be your beater, is cheap, and you plan to keep it for a long time, then go for it. It sounds like your friend has had the car for a while and it's done well for him. There's no reason to believe it'll suddenly fall apart once it changes owners.

At any rate, a '94 Prelude has finished most of its depreciating already, and the difference between a salvaged car and a clean car isn't going to be all that much.
