Would you go to London for just a weekend?

London has nasty weather right now. I'd go south. pick a relatively safe Central or S. American country... or a country in the Caribbean. Probably cheaper too, considering the strength of the pound.

p.s.-- I just got back from a 7-night cruise in the Caribbean, btw. 85-90 F. mildly humid. absolutely beautiful, and a great escape from the gloomy California winter we're having. went to San Juan, Puerto Rico... then St. Thomas (v. nice)... then Tortola.

Did it over the Thanksgiving weekend and had loads of fun. I'm also planning to go in May for 2-3 days to see one of the Queen concerts (probably their last tour ever).

As to what there is to see, trust me, you'll be overwhelmed. 2-3 days is not nearly enough to see everything there. However, since you don't have much time, I suggest to take the Big Bus sightseeing tour (http://www.bigbus.co.uk/). It is really convenient as your ticket will be good for 24 hours and the buses work just like regular public transportation (you can get on and off at different locations). I also suggest taking a ride on the London Eye (http://www.ba-londoneye.com). It is a huge observation wheel and would be a lot of fun after you learn the famous landmarks from the Big Bus tour. But in any case, don't stress yourself too much and just try to enjoy your time. You can have just as much fun by just walking through the city.

Big Bus is sweet. I never took a taxi becuase I liked the Big Bus so much. I kept getting the same tour guide. London is a great city, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

I'm going for a wedding in August, and since mine is two weeks later, I won't have enough vaca to go for longer than a weekend. Hell, if you find a good deal, post the details, cause I'd go for a weekend sooner.
Steve C, I've seen weekend packages to London for about or not much more than 350 before, on CNN.com's travel section. But those were usually flying from NYC, not Indy.

Oh, and to answer your questions.. I would try the Indian restaurants in London, they are supposed to be very good there. England is not known for it's cuisine, though London would be as good a place as any to get good food. (sorry, not trying to be a jerk, Brits). There's a cool restaurant called Waggamamma (sp?) you could try out. As for specific pubs and restaurants, maybe buy/check out a Lonely Planet or Let's Go guide. I really like their descriptions/opinons. Especially if you're on a budget.

But seriously, if you find some tremendous deal from Indy, I'd like to see the details. I miss Europe, even that rainy island. JK, love England. If I lived in NYC, I'd probably fly over often for quick weekends.

Do you mean would I go in general? or would I go knowing that you'll be there?

Very different scenarios.
