I still don't see any good argument for getting married beyond "Well, everybody else is doing it."

How, pray tell, would it actually make people happier?
Oh, I think I see what you're saying.
So you're asking, if one were living with someone they were very in love with, how would it make them happier to be legally married, rather than just continuing on like they were? If that's your question, I'd say it wouldn't.

But if you're asking why someone would be happier married than they would if they just dated around but stayed "unattached" (legally AND emotionally) their whole life... I'd think the reason would be obvous.

Yep, the first one is where I'm coming from. I guess I don't know how the original poll was intended... Two very different questions, aren't they?

[QUOTE=dcak,Apr 8 2005, 09:39 AM] This all sounds pretty harsh, but I get what you're saying. But taxes are always going to be unfair. My grandparents pay taxes that pay for roads, yet they've always driving

We'll we are because when you pay less taxes we pay more.

So you get $3100 for the choice and pleasure of having a child while I get nothing.

Marriage generally stinks. You need someone to wittness your life so that when you both die no one left really knows a damn about who you were.
Have you ever been married or is this advice from a "magazine racer" that's never actually driven the car?

Lol... taking the "magazine racer" reference literally was classic, but you defended yourself well!
