Bikers going 140+ busted
Monday, August 18, 2008 By RYAN DEZEMBER Staff Reporter
A dozen motorcyclists were arrested midday Sunday after the pack was clocked hurtling along Interstate 10 at over 140 mph, said Cpl. Joe Piggott, a state trooper spokesman.
A trooper first spotted the cyclists speeding by westbound traffic at about 100 mph at milepost 55, which is about 11 miles east of the Florida state line, at about 10:45 a.m., Piggott said. Unable to pursue the cyclists because they were going so fast, the trooper radioed ahead to a colleague posted about 20 miles to the west.
When they passed the second trooper between the Daphne and Malbis exits, the cyclists, riding high-performance sports motorcycles, had sped up to over 140 mph. That trooper gave chase and a third trooper ahead in a Dodge Charger stopped traffic on the Bayway to force the cyclists to stop.
"There was no incident or anything," Piggott said. "They just pulled off.
"They're not bad guys, they just drive with complete disregard for anyone on the highway and then when you get more than two or three, then you get a pack mentality."
Both westbound lanes on the Bayway remained closed for a few minutes before one was opened while troopers wrote citations and worked to get the motorcycles towed off the highway, Piggott said. By about 1:15 p.m. both lanes had been reopened, he said.

I got pulled over by one of the chargers once, and the cop said "Good think you pulled over, cus no way that honda's gonna outrun my hemi." I about sh*t my self.
P.S. I wasnt speeding, I guess I just took off to quick from a stop light(no ticket issued).

If you passed a parked cop at 130 mph, you'd be out of sight before he got onto the road, much less got up to speed. Btw, Crown Vic cruisers can't even touch 130, so best bet would be get off the road and hide for the next few hours until the station shift ends because that cop and all his buddies will be looking for you.
I don't think so. I'm not looking to add something like that to my (up-'til-now nonexistent) criminal record.
That said, I've only done 130+ mph in my car maybe four times and it was on a deserted stretch of road where I can see for a mile ahead of me (same spot every time). I wouldn't do that kind of speed where a cop could be hiding.

but it also depends on where you live. In NYC and Long island where there is ALOTTTT of cars if the cop didnt get your plate and loses sight of you and you take an exit and you wait 5 minutes and go back on the highway they cant give you a ticket. It happened to me once. Even better in NY there highways are kind of connected easily. I would just get off and hop on a diff highway.
