"A Christian is someone" ..... "has a willingness to surrender their lives for the glory of God "

eh what does that mean exactly?

sounds very similar to what terrorist teach "die in holy war for glory of allah and go to heaven" etc etc etc

yeah I know.

"Christianity" came from Christ and sustained by his disciples of which Paul was the main guy ( probably also due to the fact that he had the most money and political power of all the disciples).

But Christianity slowly became unorganized and there was no standard set of beliefs to go by, some of these churches even started to borderline on mixing the teachings of Christ and the old testament books with local pagan beliefs.

The catholic church came about and standardized the bible and belief system and on top of that added in many of their own rules. Many of these rules contradict what the bible teaches.

Um........some of you folks are totally screwed in the head. Set foot into your average church on Sunday and you will see some of the nicest people you ever meet. They show up to say thanks for what they have, give money to charity, shake hands and commune with others. Boy they must just be evil bastards huh?

Religion is not responsible for the evils of the world, people are. You have to be a complete simpleton not to figure that out. Osama, the Crusades, KKK, Jerry Falwell, whomever you wish to bring up is not made to commit a bunch of douche-baggery by their God, they do it out of their own self interest, greed and lust for power. They only hide behind a notion that they are doing what they think their God wants them to do.

But congrats to your friend. Instead of being sorry for him, be happy. He has chosen a difficult life but one that can be as fulfilling as any other existence. I admire the devotion of those that truly follow what they believe. I also find it hard to figure out why some people are just haters. What joy does it bring you to trash what someone believes?

Kai, you seem knowledgeble in the history of a few religions, but why do you seem so angry at them? I'm thinking you've had this forced on you in the past, or have had some other negative experience

nah.. i grew up going to church.

then went to a religious private school where for 5 years i studied various religions incl christianity as the primary religion. used to be able to quote parts of the bible from memory or find what passages i needed in a few seconds.

talk to too many fathers, priests, occultists, witches, psychics, monks, pastors u name it.

never did get the opportunity to talk in depth with a jewish rabi though.. probably because im the wrong race. haha.

learned too much about them and their beliefs to see what religion really is.

Yeah, see, religion is just a set of rules you have to follow, kind of what you're saying. I hate the word religion. I don't call what I believe religion. I tell people I'm of the Christian faith, not that my religion is Christianity. After you throw out all the garbage thats been added (mostly by Catholics) for the sake of "religion", you can strip Christianity down to it's core belief that there's a place better than this stupid world we have to live in, and you just have to have the faith (key word, thats why i use it, rather than religion) to believe in a God that died for you so you can go there. This became solidified in me more than ever after I saw The Passion. I really understood what it all meant

God didn't die for us, the son of God did Jesus. Talk about reading the bible and following it. I wonder how many of you here religious people actually know Gods name. I wonder where in the bible it says its illegal to use Gods name. As far as I know there are many Gods and they should be called by their names. Even the all mighty God father of Jesus Christ has a name so please use it .
