"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

I get that message in certain sites like:
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/
http://www.liquidcode.org/
and all of their sub-pages, it's a popup and it pops up every time, and it gets kind of annoying.

What's the problem? My security settings have always stayed the same and it just started coming up today. Thanks

check your internet settings ... security section. There is a checklist of things for you to look at. select the one that looks like it might be prohibiting this from running. I hope that helps.

The only nasty thing about ActiveX is taht there are some pages that will use it to install random spyware on your machine. Its a nasty little backdoor Microsoft has. I'm curious as to why websites even need ActiveX controls for.

He listed them in his first post, HunterEz. I tend to agree with you about the backdoor-ness about these proggies. Once they're on your system, a trojan "disguised with the Microsoft name of course" can run things off of your computer, pop-ups come up with every page viewed, etc. etc. It's a marketing ploy...Telemarketing is to RL as ActiveX (and its affiliates) is to DL (RL and DL // Real life and Digital Life)

I have found out what the problem is:

Java applets are disabled or something like that. Everytime I go to a site with Java it shows that message and then I see everything except the Java applet, like the S2ki Chatroom. There are 2 links at the bottom, I can see that, but then the rest of the chat stuff is Java, so I can't see it. Anyway to enable this? or delete whatever is doing this?
