All that effort to make it look like unpainted bodyparts???!!!

I understand the whole car thing, looks quite smart, but this one ^ just looks silly to me

Yeah, I'd have to agree. Under $2K for a full color change, jams and all? That seems hard to believe, unless you did all the prep yourself.
I paid 1600 roughly to have my old hatchback painted Kandy Oriental Blue. I didn't do any prep work for the actual paint, I took them my shell. Granted I took the car apart myself but also had the car painted Kandy vs just a normal color. I have pictures of the whole build if interested. I always go to someone I know, not a big body shop. Maybe that's why I always get paint work done for so cheap.

Also are you people just dropping a car off as is without doing anything? I would never do that personally, stuff never ends up being put back correctly, I always take it taken apart as much as possible if I'm getting something painted and put it back together myself. I am just trying to figure what kind of work it is that is costing 5-7k.

my S is my daily so the longer its away from me the more it hurts me. i just let them do the work for me and adjusted the panels when i got the car back, if there is a next time ill prolly take the panels off before hand since im looking at a different car for a daily. thanx for the idea i really didnt think about it too much.

Yah, assuming that I'm dropping off a car without doing any work myself and the shop will do everything. And top notch means flawless paint and perfect fitment when putting back any panels that they had to take off.

I can see where that would cost a lot more if you don't do anything but drop it off. Just seems crazy high at 7k. The vinyl wraps that are matte are sort of neat but I can't imagine spending the money on it if I wanted a non-matte color vs paint. Where is the photo of the guy who had the desert camo wrap on his car?
