Someone just bought an early Mugen V1 intake for $6,500 at a Japanese auction (so if a US buyer, another $800 to ship?). Congrats! Anyone here? We're sure glad ours is already comfortably attached to the car!

Not me but I was following that auction. $6.5k sounds about right, it was missing some stuff.

With prices like these on Mugen parts, and watching all the S2000s on BAT, we're always curious to know what our car would bring on BAT. We have pretty much most of the early stuff, from engine/exhaust/ECU to suspension, wheels and interior to hood, half lip and 3 piece. But we'll never list it to find out!

Hard to say. Very few people would pay top dollar for a modded car versus mods themselves. Speaking of V1 intake, here is an introduction screenshot from Mugen's official website on August 2000.

I've been in the classic car world for a very long time (mostly Porsches). I was brought into S2000s by my sons.

What I'm seeing is that the buyer did not spend $6,500 on a 20 year old part because he wants the latest greatest edge of power for competition. He bought it because he sees the historical value in being built by the famous Mugen, designed by F1 engineers, linked to Honda, and even sold by Honda. Yes, ratty 20 year old modded cars are not going to go for a lot of money. But there is no doubt in my mind that if there are buyers who are paying these high prices for the parts, there are similar buyers who will pay extra high prices for cars running with them. And I suspect that the Mugen cars will be more valuable than many of the others because of that.

Take a look at the Porsche 911 modded world. It's off the charts now. But, they have to be done nicely, and they're for cars and coffee and light track days. They are not for some young guy to trash around town.

Just my thoughts. I think we've reached the point where we have a different type of buyer who values S2000s for things that are different than previous buyers.
