I'm running the mentioned Mugen mods on a Grenby tune and yes, midrange greatly improved but also top end feels much stronger.
I'd like to know the a/f ratio from the Mugen ECU. Is it possible to have something like a 3rd gear full throttle pull logged on a dyno? Or a Hondata equivalent Mugen ECU tune. I read that the ECU runs kinda lean and tends to knock when running with low octane fuel. Low octane fuel is not an issue in Germany. Almost any every major gasoline brand offers 100+ octane fuel.
V2 intake frees up a little more power by breathing better, not much but measurable. I believe, the reason was because the V2 opening sits behind the bumper cover in an area that still gets cooler ambient air, but isn't turbulent air. V1 is cooler because it's OG and there's a snorkel that sneaks out at the front bumper opening.
I've had both, I hated how the V1 would constantly need to be readjusted so that it wouldn't vibrate against the hood, or against the radiator stay....V2 didn't have as much issue with moving over time (but again, V1 looked oh so cool).
Good to know. I thought the V1 had a little advantage by having the snorkel positioned directly in the airstream.
You said "basically ... OEM." But isn't that half the beauty of the Mugen parts? That is, because Mugen is related to the Honda, they are made on the factory equipment - only better. No other S2000 parts maker can say that. And the other half of the beauty of Mugen, is what we kind of knew, and was confirmed for us last weekend: all Honda race cars are still built by Mugen, even F1. What could be better than that pedigree and quality on our S2000s?
I still stand by my "crazy" difference that the full combo makes (with all due respect to Luder ) Perhaps the difference is more from the types of roads and driving conditions we have respectively. But I think the engineers nailed it in changing the character of the car in the midrange, and not just driving around town, but when pushing the car. To me that's crazy.
And, Jarvis, I agree with you on the Mugen ECU running lean. I even communicated with Mugen directly about it. Remember, the damage that is caused by being too lean or too advanced for the richness is from pinging - and the worst damage from pinging is often from the pinging you can't hear. A far as I know, no one has mapped the Mugen ECU. If they did, I'd love to get a programmed ECU that matches the Mugen map, but keeps the knock sensor active. I tried to see if any of the SoCal tuners could help with that, but was not successful - because I couldn't get someone with a map of the Mugen ECU or the means to figure it out. I did find one guy who said he could map it, but he wanted a lot of money.

I like that they are improving on OEM parts too.

I've had my v1 for about 1k miles and haven't heard/felt any vibration. Can you describe how often/at what mileage intervals did the vibration came about?
CR in that picture has a discontinued WASP carbon fiber splitter.
Thanks for the info. I don't suppose you know of any alternatives? I'm looking for something with a carbon fiber trim to go with CF side splitters and rear diffuser.
