I work at Lincoln Electric in Euclid, OH as an operations engineer. We are always looking for good engineers to some degree but depends a lot on that type of work/experiences the person has. obvious statement but true nonetheless.

I'm a chemical engineer. I've been looking for a job in Columbus for 2 years. Currently, I'm doing consulting for the company I worked for when I lived in AZ. Good luck in the job hunt. There do seem to be quite a few jobs available, but being geographically constrained makes it very difficult.

I'm an electrical engineering major at OSU. This summer I'm working at the electro-science lab on campus, mainly doing research on antennas and other EM related stuff. Come winter, I'll be co-oping with rolls royce doing power stuff.

I wish I could work with cars. Electric motors are great, but I'd rather be a part of an R&D project for some car. Any EE's here working in the auto industry?

I'm an ME (mechanical), but I got my MBA from OSU shortly after undergrad because I didn't want to be limited to engineering. Now i'm a sales engineer - the best of both worlds.

If you're still looking for available positions, we're always looking for young engineers in an engineering or sales role.

I am a Senior Industrial Designer and I currently work for TTI Floor Care, which you all are probably more familiar with Hoover and Dirt Devil. Its located in Glenwillow, OH....South East Cleveland. I work in product development and marketing. I interact a lot with cross functional development teams.

I know they are hiring a ton of people. Some test engineers, some mechanical engineers, and project engineers. I can only direct you to the website:

TTIFC

I can't exactly recommend you...since I don't know you...but its a great place to work and we just built a huge addition to the building only for R&D. I know they are pretty competitive on salary and such...but I have a feeling they are hiring only people with experience. BUT, the co-op program is definitely good here. We usually have a lot of engineering co-ops and I could speak to some of my team members on the engineering side about that.

5th year senior at OSU in Mechanical Engineering. Currently interning for the City of Hamilton at their power plant for the 4th summer. I also just got done with a Co-op at Toyota of Georgetown in their Paint Production Engineering department (Produce Camry, Avalon, Solara). Definitely an interesting place! Internships/Co-ops definitely look good on resumes but I agree it's hard to get a job you will enjoy when you are geographically constrained. For example I would love to stay in Ohio but potential job offers I've had range from Georgetown to Mississippi for Toyota and Hamilton to Greenup, KY for the city.

Good luck!

sounds awesome, and it's good to hear there are so many engineer owners

right now i'm doing a business minor and philosophy minor, while pushing towards my EE degree. i'm still unsure what to do after i graduate. i might do MBA and masters in an EE specialization together, but we'll see how it goes. heck, i haven't exactly ruled out law school either. haha i guess i'm just...unfocused.

i do think that if i want to head up an R&D part of a project, i'm going to need at least a masters in EE. you guys agree?

i have that rolls royce co-op for winter, so i'm not looking for anything right now, but i do appreciate the support. i wish the rolls plant in ohio had anything to do with cars though!!

To be honest a Master's would probably help you....but I wouldn't guarantee it.

I had a discussion with my Manager at Toyota about this, if a Master's degree actually helped getting hired and/or move up in the company. His answer was...."Well I don't have one, and honestly I don't look into it when hiring."
He personally was a Co-op at Toyota and moved up from a Specialist to A/M and then Manager. I don't know how true this is across the board but usually Toyota sticks true to their standards. When it comes to moving up I don't think it's necessarily how much education you have, but its what you can show your supervisor. Toyota actually has an interview/application process for raises which requires examples of projects you've done for the company.

When it comes to R&D though, its a little more specialized and will be harder to get into. Although there are several things R&D works with, i.e. radio design. Not many people think about that kind of stuff.

Hope this helps. Sorry it's all about Toyota but thats who I have experience with. I know Honda or any other Japanese companies function the same way.
