Evil is a dumbass, chapter 71
Some of you know my SVO didn't make it to the show last weekend. It developed a nasty misfire when I took it out for cleaning the weekend before. The problem was intermittent, which made it difficult to troubleshoot and with the show less than a week away, I decided to park it until I could start tearing it apart.
My primary guess was a fuel pressure problem. While the car has only 19k miles, the fuel pump is the original and at nearly 21 years old, it seemed to be the culprit. One of the guys I share the shop with, stopped by on Sunday evening while I was there pissing and moaning about the problem and he was pretty adament it was electrical. He is the Team Manager for a Rolex DP team and knows a few things about cars. Like racing is expensive
Last night, the rain kept me from mowing my lawn, so I packed up some tools and drove to the shop, intent on eliminating any ignition problems. I knew the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, stator, etc. all have less than 500 miles on them.
For those unfamiliar with the Mustang SVO, the intercooler sits on top of the motor, just to the side, an idea copied by Subaru on the WRX and STi. In order to even see the plugs it must be removed. It takes maybe 15-20 minutes to do and isn't hard. I pulled the I/C off and everything looked normal. I wiggled the #4 plug wire and it was fine. Wiggled the #3 wire and flipped off after barely touching it. The damn plug wire was loose. The other two were fine. A loose plug wire kept my car out of the show. Damn!! I should have checked that.
Anywho, car is back to 100%. I drank a couple coronas to celebrate my intelligence.

TMIC rocks! Upgrade to a FMIC damnit!
Congratulations genius, next time I have a misfire problem I'll just make sure I tug on my spark plug wires.
Ah, you didn't want to win another trophy taller than you anyways....Popeye would had to strap it to the roof of his Civic.

I am a banker, Dave. I occassionally work on the Mustang when I know how to fix it. I never had my own shop though.
Kudo's for fixing it yourself
