Hotness in another softop
There's some girl driving a Solstice regularly between Columbus and Marysville. I've seen her twice now...once in the morning on the way to work, and the other time on the way home. Both times were on 33. Call me crazy, but I see hotness both in the car and in the girl. Of course this was at a 100 yards. It's probably akin to being drunk in a whole-in-the-wall bar on a Tuesday night, and then asking yourself "what have I got myself into" after sobering up at her place hours later.
What do you guys think of the Solstice? Seen many of them around Columbus?

I like the looks of the Solstice, from some angles. From others, it looks too...cartoony, I guess. Saw a black one with temp tags last week on 161. I think the Saturn design team did a better job. The Sky looks sweet in all the pics I've seen. Can't wait to see one in person.
I'm curious to see what the GXP Solstice can do.

I don't like the look. First off they stole my old wheels.
Also, the front looks like an Elise and an MR2 had a kid. I saw a red one coming form MArysville today. Oh yeah...it's an FN Pontiac.

I think both the Solstice and Sky are good looking cars, the Saturn more-so, but I don't see the staying power of either design. After almost 4 years, my s2000 is still a head-turner, and people always want to know what kind of Porsche or BMW it is. A valient effort, and I'm sure they'd be a blast to drive, but I couldn't imagine owning a roadster from a company that brought us the Fiero and Grand Ams of several generations.

I will never own another Pontiac. I'd be really afraid buying one with this being the first year of a new model Pontiac.
The Solstice at the Columbus car show looked worse and worse the closer I got to it. I felt that the exterior fit and finish was poor and I didn't like how busy the interor design was.
Hey the Fiero is a classic!

Back on topic, the Solstice has been killing the new Miata in C Stock at national level autocrosses. Pontiac (or at least Bob Lutz) did a surprisingly good job with the suspension, giving it full adjustability. Out of the box, I think the new Miata is slightly fastter, but with an aggressive alignment, the Solstice is a better cone dodger by far. But, it can't keep up with the 99 Miata Sport package yet. Maybe with another year of development.
I certainly wouldn't pay over invoice for a Solstice - or any car, like you have to if you want one now. I would stay away from almost any first year model, too, except Hondas of course.
Oh yeah, any points Pontiac got with the suspension are lost in my book due to losing the majority of the trunk when the top is down. Takes the fun out of a weekend getaway with your honey when it comes down to either letting her bring a change of clothes or putting the top down.
